Still

I don't have very much Thursday left. I was going to post about yesterday being the 4th of July.

I was going to tell you about how when I was a kid, I lived for the years I could visit my grandparents on July 4th. Their town is on a lake, and they had a days-long festival called Aqua Boom, culminating, as the name suggests, fireworks on the lake.

I was going to tell you about how, when I was watching fireworks with my roommate last night, I thought of how much I loved those fireworks as child. And I thought of how much my grandfather loved his country, and the 4th of July. And I was going to tell you how much I loved him, how much I still loved him.

I was going to tell you just how much my heart began to hurt as I watched those fireworks last night. That's what this post was going to be about.

But I'm tired of talking about how much I miss my grandfather. I'm tired of it hurting so badly.

I'm running out of words to describe the ache I still have in my heart, more than a year later. And I'm running out of Thursday.

Who wants to bring me ice cream?

Guys, I'm exhausted. A piece of advice? Only work two jobs if you like being tired all the time.

This week was especially awful because I was sick earlier this week, as I discussed in my last post.

Also, I wore bad shoes to my part time job this weekend and that made it SO MUCH WORSE. I know guys, I really should have known better. But they were just so darn cute!

But that's not the point. The point is, the extra money is SUPER nice, BUT I'm always tired.

That's my answer for when people ask me how I am. 90% of the time I answer the question with "I'm tired."

But that's okay. At least I don't have sleeping problems anymore.

Oh, and you're probably wondering about the title for this post. Yet again I find myself wanting ice cream, but not wanting to leave my apartment. Someone please fix this.

Don't Get Sick

Don't get sick, guys. It's not fun.

There's something going around, and I don't recommend catching it. It knocked me flat on my ass this week.

So here are some pointers to avoid catching this summer's cold:

1. WASH YOUR HANDS!

I know this should go without saying, but I'm serious. If your hands are cracked and dry because you're washing them so much, you're still not washing them enough. Every time you touch a doorknob or a telephone, shake hands with someone. WASH YOUR HANDS.

2. Take Vitamin C regularly.

Whether it's orange juice, Vitamin C pills, Airborne, whatever.

I didn't do this. No one expects to get sick in the middle of the summer. People associate colds with wintertime. And that's why summer colds are the worst.

3. Don't touch anything!

I know this one is pretty irrational, but you're really better off just putting your hands in your pockets and not touching anything, ever.

4. Don't breathe.

Again, irrational and impractical, but if you don't breathe, then you don't get the germs that make you sick, right? Right.

Okay, so not all of this post was useful or even entertaining. I'm really just bent out of shape about being so sick this week and having to take a day off from work, and being sick on my days off.

Moral of the story: Don't be a victim of the summertime flu.

Stuff That's Bad For You

Yes, I missed a post. But I tweaked my work schedule, and I didn't have time. I'm sorry.

But that's besides the point.

The point of this post is Oreos. And Pringles.

If you're like me, then you like your share of junk food. Everyone has their vices. Ice cream. Oreos. Potato chips. You know yours.

Literature can be the same way. I have a phrase I like to use sometimes about books. "Junk Food Fiction."

Avid readers understand it perfectly.

Junk food fiction is that book that you know is bad for you, that book that you're wasting your brain cells on, but you pick it up anyway. It's okay. Everyone needs a little thinking-free fiction sometimes.

But it's like Oreos. One or two is fine. But if you lose control, soon the entire package is gone and your insides feel awful.

Too much junk food fiction, and your insides feel awful.

My vices?

I have two.

1. Twilight

Source

I'm ashamed to say I've read the entire series. But my curiosity got the best of me. I had to find out what everyone was making a big deal over.

But once I started? It was like a compulsion. I had to find out the ending.

And afterward? My insides felt awful.

2. The Sookie Stackhouse Books

Source

Heard of True Blood? It's based off of these books.

If reading Twilight is like eating too many Oreos, then these books are like that enormous burger covered in cheese and bacon and loaded with too many calories that was just too good to want to take back.

I'll confess I love these books for pool reads, because they take next to no brain cells to read.

I try to be ashamed for this one, but like that burger, I just can't.

Confession time, friends! What are some of your favorite junk food fiction reads?

Things My Father Taught Me

Since I wrote a Mother's Day post last month, it seems only right and good that I write a Father's Day post today. So in honor of Father's Day, may I present to you:

Things My Father Taught Me

  • How to make tacos.
  • How to make pancakes.
  • To love and trust God.
  • The words to the Doxology and the hymn "Christ Be My Leader," even though he can't really sing. :)
  • The words to The Lord's Prayer and the Apostles Creed when I was small, by teaching me just a little each night.
  • How to drive.
  • That a man always comes to the door for you, never just honks and waits for you to come out.
  • That boys will walk in and out of your life, but one day a man will walk into your life, and he's the one you'll marry.
  • What a great father looks like.

I love you, Daddy.

Too Much Work and an Ice Cream Delivery Service

I thought about writing a post about junk food fiction today, but I'm not sure I'm mentally prepared for cleverness like that. I'll save it for a day when I have more of my wits about me. I kind of just woke up and I woke up with a headache, so I feel a little like crap, and I've still got to work later. Not that you care.

I've just been so busy with work lately I barely have time to think and come up with great posts for you all. I haven't quite mastered the art of working two jobs yet. Any tips to offer, internets?

In other news, who wants to start an ice cream delivery business with me? (And I DON'T mean an ice cream truck!) Lately I've been frequently finding myself in desperate want of some Ben & Jerry's, and no desire to venture to hell, I mean Walmart to get some.

I don't understand why no one's thought of this yet. I mean, really. Someone would make a fortune delivering ice cream to single ladies in their pajamas holed up in their apartments on a Friday night. Or, you know, any other night. And add wine to the menu and that fortune would turn into, well, more money than Bill Gates.

Seriously. Someone needs to get on this.

No post today guys...

...because I'm too busy working and seeing Snow White and the Huntsman, and watching the TONY AWARDS! Try back Thursday.

I love you all, you're all brilliant!
