What did I just agree to?

Somehow, my roommates managed to get me to agree to join an online dating site with them.

WHAT.

I'm not even that eager to go on dates, or enter a relationship. (Notice how I avoided using the word "desperate"? You all should be proud of me.)

Somehow I managed to get talked into an online dating profile-making party with them tonight. Yikes. I'm glad we have alcohol.

It's not that I'm looking down my nose at people who do online dating. I understand that in this internet age, it's super practical. And that sometimes, it's just hard to meet people. But there still feels something a little bit. . . I don't know. Last resort-ish about it?

And then there's the part where you eventually meet people from the internet who could be serial killers and rapists and generally bad people. SCARY. Not that I think my internet friends are bad people in disguise. . . Um. . . Anyone want to help me out of this hole?

Right. Back on topic.

I can think of several reasons why I shouldn't do this.

So why did I say yes?

Wish me luck friends. At least this makes for more blogging fodder.

  2. Ok, let's be real here. In this Internet age, many people are dating online as one of their main if not exclusive ways to meet others. And yes, you may meet people who are scary or weird but you are a smart and wise woman and j have complete confidence that you will be able to use your judgement to discern when someone is creepy. Most of the people you meet are normal guys just looking for someone to love. Maybe you will find someone whom you want to reciprocate that with :). And you are going to be smart and meet in a public place and if need be have a friend scout for you. Plus, weird dates make the BEST stories!! New adventures and learning experiences for a new year!! (And hello White Russians!)

  4. I'll admit, I've tried it. Ish. As in, I got an account and I tried looking at a few profiles, and on one account I did have a few short message exchanges. I never actually got the nerve to MEET anyone. It just felt weird to me. I have nothing against online dating. I know a ton of people who have gotten married to, or will be marrying soon, someone they met online. It's awesome! You can be specific with the kind of person you are looking for, you can kind of "Interview" the person first. I definitely see the appeal. But it just didn't feel right to me. I feel like making internet friends is different. We all have gotten to know each other through blogs, chats, videos, etc. We have common interests and friendships developed through that - only through screens. I feel like it's different.
